Chameleon

Troubleshooting

Installation

Problem: The Chameleon installer didn't work.
Solution: Chameleon requires that you have read/write access to the install location. Please check with your system administrator to ensure that you have appropriate permissions.

Problem: When I start Chameleon, I receive an error message saying no plug-ins could be found.
Solution: Chameleon looks for a folder called 'plugins' at the same level as Chameleon-GUI.exe; you should verify that this folder is present and is filled with Chameleon plug-ins.

Automatic Updates

Problem: I am continually re-prompted to download updates, even though I always say 'Yes'.
Solution: This may be due to a configuration error on the update server. Please contact the administrator of that server for more assistance. Additionally, please check to verify that your system account has read/write permissions to all Chameleon folders

Plug-ins and Plug-in Error Messages

Problem: Plug-in X gave me an error message.
Solution: The most common cause of plug-in errors in input coming in an unexpected format. First, check your input files and make sure they are formatted according to relevant standards. If this still does not address the issue, please contact the author of the plug-in. Remember: not all plug-ins for Chameleon were created by Black Knight. Contacting the author of the plug-in is the best way to get help with your problem.

Problem: I am having an error running an Excel related plug-in.
Solution: Please verify that your computer has an installed version of Excel XP or later.

Problem: I have Excel plug-ins and I am receiving this warning: 'Interop.Microsoft.Office.Core could not be found. Some plug-ins may not operate as expected.'
Solution: If you have upgraded to Chameleon 2.4.3 or later, you will need to move your supporting Excel libraries out of the plug-in folder and into the main Chameleon directory (at the same level as Chameleon-GUI.exe).

Problem: I am receiving the following error message "The standard Chameleon log file is locked for writing by another process or cannot be written to due to permissions issues. No execution logs will be kept"
Solution: By default, Chameleon attempts to keep a log file of its own operations. In Chameleon 2.10.1 and prior, this log file is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\chameleonLog.log. In Chameleon 2.10.2 and later, this log file is at [Chameleon_Install_Root]\Chameleon\log\chameleonLog.log. This message is telling you that there is a problem writing to this file. Check the following

  1. Make sure that you are not simultaneously running multiple instances of Chameleon.
  2. The file is not set to 'read-only'
  3. The current user has write permissions on this file
Execution can still continue, even when this error occurs.

Problem: None of my plug-ins appear in Chameleon, even though the plug-ins folder is populated with valid Chameleon plug-ins.
Solution: For Chameleon versions prior to 2.5, check to make sure Chameleon_Plugin.dll is not also present in your plug-in directory. If it is, delete it, and restart the tool.

Problem: I cannot import a new version of an existing plug-in.
Solution: Chameleon plug-ins cannot be overwritten while the client is active. Close Chameleon, copy the plug-in and restart Chameleon.

Python

Problem: None of my Python script plug-ins appear in Chameleon, even though the pyScripts folder is populated with valid Chameleon plug-ins.
Solution: Please check the 'Help' -> 'Check Python Availability' box to make sure Python 2.4 is correctly detected on your system. If it is, please ensure that your dependencies are correct such that you do not receive the 'X could not be found. Some plug-ins may not operate as expected' warning when you start Chameleon.
